Today, Tower Records founder Russell Solomon would have turned 100 years old! Happy birthday, Russ! Born in San Francisco, a young Russ and the Solomon family moved to Los Angeles before settling in Sacramento. His father Clayton Solomon opened Tower Cut-Rate Drug Store at 16th and Broadway in 1938, operating every day of the year from 9 am to midnight. While Clayton had sold records in his store since 1941, Russ struck out on his own in 1952, rack jobbing before founding what became internation
