"Offshore" sail numbers may be required in any race that is not a one-design race."

Sep 6, 2016 · When I teach US Sailing's Basic Keelboat, (essentially ASA 101) there is a PowerPoint presentation that walks you through many of the concepts. I know that the instructors that teach ASA 101 walk through all of the parts of the boat before you leave the dock.

Aug 2, 2015 · I have taught 3 methods of COB; Figure 8, Quickstop, and I remember showing my evaluator for US Sailing the Broad Reach-Close Reach method. He was impressed, as it seemed very effective. I also teach that you should always approach the COB on a close reach, and recover them on the leeward side of the boat .

Oct 18, 2017 · Congratulations! I just passed the US Sailing Coastal Navigation class, which sounds like pretty much the same course. How much time did you have to finish the exam? I didn't feel rushed at all, so maybe we had a lot more time. I did study a lot! So there's that. I agree about wishing I had several 1210 TR charts.

Mar 27, 2012 · I have been sailing for a couple of months on our new to us Pearson 27 and am thinking about going ahead and getting ASA 101 Keelboat certified soon. I have read Sailing Made Easy (the ASA-approved training book), as well as several others. There is one instructor available locally that offers the 2-day course/exam and I am considering that.
