Hansa-Automobil Gesellschaft m.b.H was a German car brand established in 1905, which in 1914 was merged with Norddeutsche Automobil und Motoren AG (NAMAG) into Hansa-Lloyd-Werke A.G.. From 1929 to 1931 it was taken over by the Borgward group. Hansa was based in the Bremen suburb of Hastedt.

Other models were the 6-cylinder ‘Hansa 1700’ (also available in a twin-carburettor sports version), the ‘Hansa 2000’ and the ‘Hansa 3500’ Privat. After 1938 Hansa cars were marketed as Borgwards.

2-door saloon, cabriolet. Same pleasant styling as the 1100, but with an extra 7ins of wheelbase to accommodate the extra pair of cylinders. Gravity feed on early cars, mechanical pumps later. 50bhp sports 2-seater not sold here. Nor, for that matter, was the twin-carburettor 2000 with Borgward badges which replaced the 1700 for 1939.

May 15, 2021 · Borgward Hansa 1700 Sport, 6 Cylinder, Dual Carbs. During World War II, production was switched to transport carriers, heavy trucks, and armored demolition vehicles. The plant was totally destroyed by allied bombing. In 1948-1949 raw materials in Germany were scarce and rationed.
