Some prefer a limper rod for that, I prefer the rubber band effect with monofilament fishing line because I am using a stiff rod. As for bobber fishing, well, I don't do much of it. Apr 5, 2024 · I dont think you need a super super fast reel either, probably just an 8 would be good enough for most frog/whopper plopper fishing. For the Frog reel checkout the Shimano SLX XT, Daiwa Fuego CT, Lews LFS. All of these come in an 8 speed ratio, put some braid on it and these can all throw frogs great and handle fighting fish in weeds/lily pads.

I've used 10,15, and 20lb test on spinning reels and 15 is my favorite. 15 lb seems to be the perfect line for me, 20lb seemed a little bit thick for many of the presentations I use my spinning rigs for.
