May 9, 2009 · One big factor is if the local bears are habituated to the people/food equation. If they are, more precautions make sense. I think it's important to remember that an average of about 1 person a year is killed by bears, and close to 20,000 people a year are murdered and over 40,000 killed on the roads. Bears DO commonly destroy gear and raid food.

Jul 5, 2018 · Do not forget that the general category of “bears” includes black bears and grizzly bears. Black bears are omnivores with few predatory inclinations. Grizzly bears are generally much more predatory. (Indeed there was a study about grizzly’s predating on blacks in Yellowstone.) These are two different animals with two different behaviors.

I guide and run 6-12 baits, eight this year. I use the spots I have always used for several years and get moved in on more than I care for also. I drive a fifty mile loop running baits.

Jun 19, 2024 · It crazy Ungie. The past 2 years NH has been absolutely loaded with bears. I see them way too regularly now. It seems the population just keeps exploding further into the south. That being said, I used to hunt in western mass alot back around 2007-2012 ish and there were alot of bears out there then. I can only imagine how many there must be now.

However, I have read several anecdotal reports from reliable persons of a bear walking right by a hanging OP sack without investigating it (in most cases the OP sack was inside an Ursack ).
