The Latin-script letter Z (Russian: зет, romanized: zet, IPA: [zɛt]) is one of several symbols (including "V" and "O") painted on military vehicles of the Russian Armed Forces involved in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In August 2022, the international media erupted with the news of Russian ex-soldier Pavel Filatyev and his memoir, ZOV. ZOV is Pavel’s first-hand, soldier’s account of the war in Ukraine. As The Guardian wrote: Pavel “expose [d] the rot at the core of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.”

He also spent 45 days to write his 141-page memoir named "ZOV 56" ("ZOV"), and publish it on VKontakte on 1 August 2022, [7] while he was still living in Russia. [3] It was by far the most detailed account of the invasion from the perspective of a Russian soldier so far, and rapidly gained widespread international media attention.
