Zippy the Monkey ('Zip the Monkey', 'Mr. Bim Monkey', or 'Zip the Chimp') is a stuffed rubber faced chimpanzee doll and a character from "The Howdy Doody Show," which was a popular American children's television program that aired from 1947 to 1960.

Zip is a circus monkey. In 1953 Buffalo Bob, Judy Tyler and show producer Martin Stone were in New Orleans making a promotional appearance for Kellogg’s. While visiting Bourbon Street, they saw a sign at one of the many strip joints that promoted a show with a chimpanzee.

May 19, 2023 · Zippy The Chimp was found by Bob Smith while vacationing in New Orleans on the long-running and well-known “Hello Doody Show”. The chimpanzee was given a five-year contract after snatching a cherry from Bob’s cup. He became a worldwide image as a result of his introduction on The Howdy Doody Show.

Zip the monkey was one of my favourite childhood cuddlies. He was a colourful, cheeky little chap that wore red dungarees and a yellow t-shirt with his name on it. He was, I believe, fashioned after the live chimp, Zippy, from Howdy Doody Show.
