Oct 22, 2007 · I twitched a hawfinch at tollymore park on 1st january last year. The bird favoured the conifers near the entrance. Showed best when on the ground feeding under the trees. There was also at least one bird at inch abbey around the same time (maybe earlier). The inch bird was feeding in the cemetary under the yew trees.

Jan 7, 2006 · There's been up to eight there thus far in 2006 - I believe they feed under the Yew trees, but may be wrong on that last point. edit: having looked at Birdguides, it looks as though the Hawfinches are also being seen somewhere in Llanbedr-y-cennin, which is only about a mile SW of Caerhun. Not sure where, though.

The other day , by a massive Yew tree, I heard a call I was sure was one I didn't recognize . Merlin gave short toed treecreeper . I spent 5 minutes confirming by waiting and watching so a new species for me .

Apr 10, 2020 · Result far more birds with clear recognisable song than heard before and no noise. Target was a large yew with a rooks colony a few hundred metres behind it. I tend to post process all sound files, but the improvements for zero cost are quite startling, and all done in seconds.

Jun 15, 2012 · Just off the top of my head - Slapton Ley on the coast to the west of Dartmouth; Berry Head (mainly for sea-watching but also some local birds breeding in the area) to the east. The Dart is often worth a look upstream from Dartmouth; there are a couple of places between Dartmouth and Totnes where you can access the muddier parts of the estuary.
