First, there is a very difficult but also beautiful trek. This several day long trek starts at (18000 m).

Experience the highlands and traditions of Papua by trekking from the villages of the Yali Tribes to the Dani Tribes. The Yali Valley lies deep in the mountains of Papua. This is a challenging trekking tour and not for the faint-hearted.

The Yali are the well known tribe, living in the pretty inaccessible Jayawijaya mountains east of the Baliem Valley. For the outside world they were only discovered in the second half of the 20th century. At first glance they are distinguished by their extremely small stature.

Afternoon hike-up for 30 minutes to the village of Wesaltek to explore the Yali traditional community life. Our trail is steep and slippery, but the scenery and the village is beautiful. Back to local house for dinner and overnight.

About 35 miles southeast of Wamena lives the Yali tribe. Some 30.000 Yali people have their villages on hills and flat terrain, but deeper as in the Baliem Valley. Therefore the temperature of this area is higher and does not get so cold at night.

Depart by charter flight to Kosarek, the home for Yali tribe. Proceed trekking to Serkasi village, the Yali compound on challenging trails, steep rocky hills, and rivers with no bridge to get across. Overnight and dinner at missionary or villagers’ house.

Yali tribe Papua living deep in the mountains to the east of Baliem Valley, West Papua. To reach them, we have to fly by chartered flight to Angguruk or Kosarek. From these villages, we will have to walk through the mountainous terrain, crossing the river by using a single log.
