And, it´s not only on mi5 model, if you google search for "Xiaomi touch stop working" you will find lots of people with another models with the same problem too. I think only a global recall could solve this. We have to press Xiaomi for this! That is all.

Jul 8, 2016 · Download twrp 3.0.2 img and copy in internal storage of mi5. Start Flashify, click on recovery image, choose a file, click on file explorer, choose sd card, and click on twrp 3.0.2.img. It's done, you have twrp on your phone.

Xiaomi locked the bootloader to prevent this, but sometimes resellers find exploit to bypass this protection. Well, my hope for you managing to unlock the bootloader are not that high, as your device never booted on China Dev ROM, but we can try.
