As Withers, Jergal provided magical support to the adventurers, in exchange for a pittance of coin compared to the usual cost of such services. He accompanied the True Soul on their journey, but aside from resurrecting dead allies and summoning additional help when asked for, he did not intervene directly.

Aug 8, 2023 · Unless Withers is an avatar of Jergal, and so in a strict sense, Withers could have no free will of his own since he was bound to Jergal's will/desire. That technicality aside, it still wouldn't explain what Withers' dialogue meant or hinted at, as to Jergal's intentions in helping us.

Aug 10, 2023 · Maybe you only want to stick with 3 chosen companions without the rest hanging out at camp being useless but you already recruited them, so you send them to Withers to keep out of the way when they die and you can continue on as if they were really permanently dead. That's the only reason I could think for this feature.

Aug 23, 2023 · I don't really know what happened but i just realized that Withers suddenly disappeared from camp. He was there, i did some respecs and after some time i realized that he is gone. I think that he left after tiefling party but i'm not sure. I'm now going to adamantite forge but he is still gone.

Before you meet Withers, if you or your party member dies in a hard to reach area , e.g. deeper part of the water at the beach, Withers will show up tells you something about fate and asks you if you want to resurrect somebody.

I discovered this recently and began looking around on the internet to see if it was common knowledge that I had just missed out on, but I haven't found any discussion about it yet.
