A bailer is a portable grab sampler typically used for retrieving groundwater samples from monitoring wells. Bailers are sometimes used to purge groundwater wells prior to sampling, collecting profile samples of free product (hydrocarbons), well development, and bail-down tests to measure recharge rates.

A bailer in hydrogeology is a hollow tube used to retrieve groundwater samples from monitoring wells. The wells are typically built out of PVC casing which is slotted to allow groundwater to flow freely through the well.

Clear PVC eco Bailer groundwater samplers make for heavier, fast sinking efficient tools for the field technician or hydrogeologist. These bailers can be top or bottom emptied especially using the bottom emptying device which can be used to sample VOCs.

Double valved eco Bailers are designed to drop down the water column in a monitoring well allowing water to pass through. At the designated depth, the bailer’s downward descent is stopped and the bailer is then smoothly recovered to surface.

Our HDPE polyethylene bailers have a thick, rigid construction to prevent warp or collapse during sampling. ECT Mfg had its HDPE polyethylene bailer components tested to see if the bailer would contribute detectable PFAS compounds to exposed field samples.
