Jun 11, 2014 · "W" bins are not "designed" for any frequency in particular. It's just a convenient way to *fold* a bass horn. Beyond that the actual dimensions, mouth size, and flare rate are a few of the determining factors. The selection of a proper driver has an effect as well.

Feb 12, 2009 · The type of “W” bins the OP may literally look like a “W” inside, the pointy part being the speaker. That design has a horn length not much longer than the cabinet depth. generally only have around 30-45 inch path length, -3dB point would be above 60 HZ.

Feb 11, 2009 · W bins generally do not go that low. There may be some-but I have not seen them. They were low for their day-but their day was years ago. Also-more than likely the use of JBL2226 drivers is making them even worse. Back when W's were popular, the designs were generally intended to be used with lightweight cones. The 2226 is NOT that by any means.

Mar 21, 2011 · One mean W-Bin Sub woofer...better known as Bertha. cut away. Cutaway 2. 5 ft wide, 3.5 ft high, 3 ft deep, 138db's at 38hz, 105db's at 1 watt. It has one more fold in the horn than the MWM and not far off from it's size. A couple of db's lower, and a foot taller but also about a foot less in depth.

Jun 22, 2009 · The PD 1850 offers a longer horn than the Eminence W Bin, which enables it to go lower. However there is a lag time as the frequency decreases. If one has only sealed W Bins and requires a lower frequency response than the horn can offer, porting the box is the only method to extend the response.

Apr 11, 2025 · Stu, I too have several of these old W-bins that we use quite a bit. Most or ours are loaded with EV180b's and I have another quad (Electrotec) loaded with McCauley 6174's. We run old Crest 8001's bridged and a nice steep filter at 50hz and have never had a problem.
