May 30, 2024 · The Blue Cave or Blue Grotto (Modra Šilja) is a famous sea cave in Croatia located on the small island of Biševo, just off the coast of Vis on the Dalmatian Coast.

Bisevo is a tiny island just off the southwestern tip of the island of Vis, just 6 sq. km in size and with a permanent population of just 20 people! It is most famous for the spectacular Blue Cave (Modra spilja in Croatian) in Balun Bay although the island is home to 26 caves in total.

The tiny islet of Bisevo is only 5 nautical miles southwest of Komiza on Vis Island. Covering 6 sq km, it would hardly be noticed at all except for its remarkable Blue Grotto (Modra Spilja) or Blue Cave that strongly suggests the famous Grotto of Capri.

It is situated in the central Dalmatian archipelago, 5 km south-west of the island of Vis. The grotto is one of the best known natural beauty spots on the Adriatic and a popular show cave because of the glowing blue light that appears at certain times of day.

Biševo (pronounced [bîʃevo], Chakavian: Bisovo) is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea. It is situated in the middle of the Dalmatian archipelago, 5 km south-west of the Island of Vis. Its area is 5.8 km 2 (2.2 sq mi) [1][2] and it has a population of 15 (as of 2011). [3]

Left Vis town at 8am to beat the crowds. You can only get by boat, you need to buy tickets, transfer to a small boat to get into the cave. Check the weather is good and liw tide. Be prepared to wait in line unless you get the speedy access.
