The Vickers VC10 is a retired mid-sized, narrow-body long-range British jet airliner designed and built by Vickers-Armstrongs (Aircraft) Ltd and first flown at Brooklands, Surrey, in 1962.

The Trident was a sleek aircraft, made mostly of aluminum alloy, with a low-mounted wing and tee tail, all flight surfaces being swept; tricycle landing gear; and three turbofan engines in the tail, one on each side and one in the tailcone, fed by an intake in the base of the tail.

Nov 12, 2023 · Vickers-Armstrong designed the aircraft with a T-tail design to boost short-field performance, similar to the British-designed Hawker Siddeley Trident and BAC One-Eleven. The VC10’s T-tail was designed with wider and full-span leading edge wing slats, emphasizing its focus on short runways.

Originally designed and used as a civil airliner from 1966. Later a number were converted for use as military transport and tanker aircraft and the type remained in service with the Royal Air Force until 2013. Note: The ICAO Designator VC10 has been removed from ICAO Doc 8643 as aircraft of this type no longer exist in airworthy condition.

Mar 1, 2005 · After more than two years, I have finally found a photo that proves what I knew (but many others doubted) - that tail props were often used under VC10s during transits. This frame was taken from the Classic Wings Vickers VC10 DVD and CLEARLY shows the prop under the tail of an aircraft at LHR!

The VC10 has four jet engines attached in pairs to the rear fuselage. Other aspects of the design include a T-tail, low mounted swept wings and a main landing gear with four wheel bogeys. The VC10 has nine main cockpit win­dows with three eyebrow windows on each side.
