Aug 10, 2004 · Basically, no, the VR6 will never be a high 8000-9000rpm motor with a linear powerband and flat torque all the way accross the rev band. It simple doesn't have the technology. In the price range of our cars you can have a small high tech 4 cylender or a bigger 6 cyl with not quite the same high technology.

With a chip, you push the limiter further up the RPM band (depending on the chip) but it's useless unless you have cams. Without cams, you run out of power at 5800 RPMs (for the 12v at least)

Jan 28, 2008 · Unless there is an after market chip installed the VR6 has a rev limiter that kicks in around 6700 rpm and cuts fuel. 9,200 rpm is impossible even with an after market chip. There is a very very very slight chance the rev limiter failed, but highly unlikely.

Aug 2, 2024 · Ever since owning the 2017 VR6 Treg I've had this issue where the transmission hangs onto high revs 80% of time during aggressive acceleration when I lift off throttle the revs hang at 3K or a typical range (3K - 4K) in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear primarily.
