Aug 11, 2012 · Looking at North-South mounted VR6 for RWD swap. (Yes, I know they are heavy, etc.) Did some Web searching, found lot's of chatter, not much meat. The tranny seems to be the sticking point. One guy had mated a Toyota W gearbox (with some bellhousing surgery), but the ACVW guys chased him away.

So now you can build an AWD turbo VR6 whatchahoozit without having to source some Euro-market only exceedingly rare Touareg transmission. Or just get the Touareg adapter for the Audi trans and use the bulletproof Audi 01E.

Mar 22, 2011 · VR6 does not share a bolt pattern with anything else. There are three (at least) flavors of VWAG bolt pattern, there's four-cylinder, there's 5/6/8 cylinder, and then there's VR6. Longitudinal transmissions made after about 1990 (specifically, the 01A, 01E, and newer) have the 4 and 5/6/8 pattern.

Jan 24, 2019 · For some engines, like the 2.8/3.1, they cast RWD (right side starter) and FWD (left side starter) engine blocks. That is why they have a bazillion mounting points. I haven't seen an Audi-engined Touareg to see if they bothered to make the RWD transmissions dual bolt pattern as well.

Oct 3, 2011 · www.034motorsports.com sells an adapter for the VR6 to the I5 bell housing pattern. The Audi 2.8, 3.0, 2.7, 3.2 are essentially the same as the v8. They are wider angle v6's than the vr6 and the bell housing pattern is different. The 4.2 and v6 share bellhosuings with the I5 from what I can tell.

Nov 24, 2019 · So, in general too much pre-load and coast locking act similarly to RWD. More pre-load and lower angles (more locking) lead to understeer for FWD and RWD. Acceleration ramp angle is opposite in that too much locking while accelerating leads to FWD understeer but RWD oversteer. RWD understeer. Nothing understeers like a rear driver with a spool.
