Mar 29, 2022 · My goal is to leave the USB drive completely empty so that nothing can contaminate the evidence I will soon bit-by-bit copy to it, using FTK imager. Can someone just confirm for me the best way to achieve this reliably and in accordance with the ACPO guidelines. Thank you very much. If this is the wrong place to ask forgive me, I'm new here.

May 28, 2022 · If your drive is large enough use Ventoy to make it bootable and allows you to add what ever iso you want (Linux, Windows, WinPE). I also moved away from traditional USB thumb drives and now use a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 external enclosure with NVMe drive. As for a WinPE I use Gandalf Gandalf's Windows 10PE

On Windows the best tool for bootable USB stick creation with a single ISO, IMHO, is Rufus ==> https://rufus.ie/en/ Rufus, is free, easy to use, and has worked with every Linux ISO I tried as well as every Windows ISO from Windows 7 onward.

Ventoy - makes a mini os USB that then boots other ISO files or other disk images which can be on the Usb or NOT. Most flexible tool of the bunch. Well worth learning about. Other Direct imaging tools, dd and the various disk writer tools most distros have do the same job. Basically making an identical usb as balena etcher would write.
