Tur hunting is a demanding mountain hunting activity, requiring good physical condition and preparation. Hunts usually take place at altitudes between 2,500 to 4,000 meters (8,200-13,000 feet), where Tur are most active during the day, moving across the alpine belt according to seasonal changes .

When it comes to the Tur hunt, it is a traditional spot-and-stalk hunt. Tur inhabits the mountains of Azerbaijan at the elevations between 7,500-11,500 feet (2,250-3,500 meters). Generally, the hunters search for the trophy males on foot because the terrain is too steep to use horses.

Tur are isolated to the Caucasus Mountains ranging along the Russian/Georgian border and terminating in Azerbaijan. The Eastern's are hunting almost solely in Azerbaijan. The Western and Mid Tur are hunted on the Russian side of the range.
