Progesterone analogs like norgestimate decrease the frequency of gonadotropin releasing hormone pulses from the hypothalamus, decreasing follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. These actions prevent ovulation. Norgestimate suppresses the hypothalamo-pituitary-axis, reducing androgen synthesis.
