Te Kauri marae is located 5 km west of Huntly township, across the river. The hapū that affiliate with Te Kauri marae are Ngāti Kuiaarangi, Ngāti Mahuta, Ngāti Tai, Ngāti Whaawhaakia and Te Ngaungau. The wharenui is named Karaka. The marae connects ancestrally to the Tainui waka, the maunga Taupiri and the awa Waikato.

Apr 1, 2025 · The Te Kauri Park Scenic Reserve is an 1100-hectare native bush reserve located in the Waikato region near the beautiful coastal settlement of Kawhia (just about an hour's drive from Hamilton). Start from the car park at Te Kauri Lodge and enjoy a variety of walks along Waikuku Stream with plentiful birdlife and nice views of the countryside.

This includes impressive views, spectacular waterfalls, towering limestone bluffs, 400 year old kauri, huge kahikatea, caves, clear streams and glow worms. The reserve is home to bellbirds, tui, kingfisher, kereru, falcons, and morepork.

Each room has 16 bunk beds (sleeping 32 people) and 1 single bed. These rooms are separated from the bunkrooms by doors. The studios have a couch, microwave, kettle and cutlery and crockery. There is also a campsite approximately 40 minutes’ walk from the lodge. Accommodation The lodge can accommodate up to 95 people.

The Te Kauri Park Loop is a 5.4 km trail run in Kawhia, Waikato, along the Medium Gorge Route and the Deversons Track - great for beginner runners.
