Tatewari, in Huichol folklore, is the god of fire, called by them 'grandfather fire'. He is also the shaman of ancient times, the patron of all shamans.

Tatewari (Grandfather Fire): Considered the oldest and most significant deity, Tatewari is the god of fire, wisdom, and time. He is believed to have created the other deities and acts as a mediator between them and humans.

Grandfather Fire – called “Tatewari” by Mexico’s Indigenous Huichol people – has been sharing teachings, sacred stories and life guidance with people all over the world for over 20 years. Tatewari speaks by “borrowing ” the body of an American-born Huichol elder, ritual leader and healer, Don David Wiley.

Aug 11, 2023 · En lengua Wixarika el fuego tiene dos nombres, la primera es Tai y es de uso cotidiano, la segunda es Tatewari y se utiliza en el ámbito ceremonial. El fuego Tai sirve para calentar casas, cocinar, preparar tejuino (Nawa) y para alumbrar la noche.

La deidad principal de los wirrarikas es Tatewarí (ta- nuestro, tewarí-abuelo), a quien Lumholtz (1900-1902) llama “el abuelo fuego”. También hay un término genérico para fuego, tái, pero rara vez se usa, aún en los conceptos no ceremoniales.
