Tain Hill Walks - Ross and Cromarty Heritage
From here stretch out uninterrupted views of the Dornoch Firth, the Sutherland coast and hills beyond and most of the Tarbat Peninsula. The shorter walk carries on from here by going downhill along the powerline past Japanese larches planted to add autumn colour.

This is a short circular walk, up Tain Hill and past the remains of the disused quarry, with spectacular views of Tarbat Ness and the Dornoch Firth from the top at ‘Pulpit Rock’.
From the Tain bypass you’ll see brown signs to ‘Tain Hill forest walk’. Turn off the A9 here and follow Quarry Road inland for 11⁄4 miles (2 km). The car park is at the end of the tarred road. A short climb through the twisted pines to Tain Hill, where Pulpit Rock provides a fine vantage point across Tarbet Ness and the Cromarty Firth.

On December 3rd, 2023, we went on a 4.7-mile, 2-hour walk in Morangie Forest near Tain, appreciating the breathtaking views, despite the subzero temperatures. Selecting our route from various marked paths on the map, we encountered few other walkers.
