575 TK/TKS tankettes formed the bulk of the Polish armoured forces before the outbreak of war. They suffered heavy losses during the invasion of Poland, often being the only armoured fighting vehicles available.

Jan 6, 2017 · One experimental TKS-D vehicle was armed with a 37 mm Bofors gun. The concept was unique: the tankette served as a tractor for an anti-tank gun, which could be removed from its mount and installed in the tankette if necessary, turning the tractor into a miniature tank destroyer.

On contrary to the TKS-D, a tank version of 37 mm Bofors gun (wz.37) was envisaged, placed low in a hull, without an option to dismount it. It was to have thicker armour – up to 15 mm, well sloped in front part, and a stronger engine, giving it better speed and power-to-weight ratio.

Although less expensive than the PZInz.160 project, it was too expensive for the Polish side to carry only 37mm anti-tank guns in 1938 and did not provide full protection against armor-piercing rifle rounds.

Jako uzbrojenie testowano francuskie działo 37mm Puteaux oraz brytyjski Vickers 47mm, ale ostatecznie uzbrojono je w polskie działo wz. 25 kal. 47mm Pocisk. W TKD wzmocniono zawieszenie i poszerzono gąsienice oraz zdemontowano górną część kadłuba.

Production History The tankette (small reconnaissance turretless tank) TK (also known as TK-3) was the Polish design, based upon an improved chasis of the British Carden-Loyd tankette. TK was produced since 1931. The TKS was an improved model with new hull and stronger engine. The armour of tankettes was up to 8 mm thick (10 mm in TKS).
