Nov 2, 2009 · It's definitely a very worthwhile machine, and it has almost every feature you could ever want, and the tape handling is excellent. But the X-Series are known for having undersized motors. Sonically: it is above average, but IMO not in the same league as one of the newer Tandberg's or Revoxes.

The Teac X-700R is a really cool Reel 2 Reel junior to is big brother X1000R. Has most the same functions too. The sound is clear an concise. The dbx gives it another level of sound quality. The record and source are close to equal each other. It is 2 speed 3 3/4 and 7 1/2 ips and reverse feature are nice.

Bi-directional record and playback were the main selling point of the X-700R. It featured six Hard permalloy heads (two each for erase, record and playback) and three motors. Speeds were 7½ and 3¾ ips and maximum reel size was 7″.

Start looking for the relays or switches that trigger the auto reverse feature. There may be a micro chip or a capacitor going bad.

This X-700R was Teac's flagship 7" deck from around 1983 to 1987. It's a 6 head, auto reverse machine, with bi-directional recording. It handles standard tape as well as the EE extended frequency response tape.

May 19, 2016 · The Teac X-700R appears to be the 7" version of the X-2000R. It has two record heads, dbx, and EE capable. These features surpass the RT-707. The 707 seems to have better specs in the W&F and in S/N ratio. The reversing mechanism is on the opposite side of the tape (emulsion side) from the Teac. Which of these is actually the better deck?
