The T18E1 pilot was unarmed and had a high cupola for the commander, this is sometimes referred to as pilot number 4. The T18E2 replaced the commander's cupola with a T122 machine gun mount, which could be fitted with either a .30 or .50 caliber machine gun.

Prototype number T18E1 was the version selected by the US Army and ordered into production in 1952 as the M75. Although the vehicle was developed by IHC, an order for 1,000 were placed with IHC and for 730 at the Food Machinery and Chemical Corporation.

A six-wheeled variant "T18E1" was also in development, but development was eventually stopped pending product realization. The 57mm main gun accepts 60 x 57mm projectiles, while also carrying 2,500 x .30 caliber ammunition.

Two (2) pilot vehicles each of the T18 and contemporarily designed* T18E1 6x6 Armored Car were originally ordered. However very soon afterward, conditions changed and production of the 6x6 T18E1 was cancelled and only one (1) T18 prototype was actually built.

The armor was to be about that of the T18E1, with turret frontal armor of 1-inch (25.4mm) with gun shield, sides and rear .5-inch (12.7mm), and top without armor. The construction of one pilot vehicle was authorized, and the vehicle designated the 75mm gun motor carriage, T66 .

The second, designated Armored Car T18E1, was a 6x6 vehicle with in-dividually sprung wheels. The project for this vehicle was, suspended in favor of development of armored car T19.
