Azov Brigade T-80U: Two Russian T-80Us that were captured by Ukraine's Azov Brigade from the Russian 4th Guards Tank Division that underwent modifications to include improved protection. The changes included the installation of Ukrainian Nizh (Knife) explosive reactive armor.

It has some features of the future T-80U including the new turret with stronger armour and equipped with a new fire control system with the 1G46 gunner's sight. However, because of all those improvements T-80A is 2.8 tonnes heavier than the T-80B.

The T-80U is an all-round upgrade to the T-80B and one of the most advanced MBTs fielded by the Soviet Union. With a new turret and Kontakt-5 ERA, it visually distances itself from its T-64 ancestors and boasts hefty protection against both chemical and kinetic rounds.

Jul 15, 2024 · The T-80U is an improved version of the Russian-made T-80 MBT (Main Battle Tank) that entered into service with the Russian army in 1985. The production of the T-80U was stopped in 1992 but Ukraine continued to produce the tank.

The T-80U uses the Kontakt-5 explosive reactive armour (see later), had an improved gunsight, and the 9K119 Refleks ATGM (from 1990). A development of the T-80A, it was powered from 1990 by a 1,250 hp (919 kW) GTD-1250 gas turbine, for improved range.
