It physically could not fire the gun without the suspension coming apart, as I recall: that’s why the Soviets gave up on the idea.

Obviously this does not mean the M26 should get HEAT-FS. Balance is something to always take into consideration. But beyond that it would be entirely valid for it to get M348.
