Sykes (c. 2001 – June 2019) was a dog actor from Clifton, Oxfordshire, England. He was best known in the UK for his appearance as Harvey in Thinkbox 's television commercial and, under his real name, in Midsomer Murders (series fourteen to eighteen, inclusive).

Dec 25, 2016 · Sykes, one of Britain’s hardest-working TV stars, has finally retired. He played DCI Barnaby’s dog in Midsomer Murders, while also appearing in Thinkbox’s ‘Every Home Needs a Harvey’ advert.

“Sykes” was a stray found in Oxfordshire in 2004 by stunt dog trainer, Gill Raddings, who also trained and lived with “Kyte,” the Belgian Shepherd from EastEnders. Accounts vary as to Sykes’ breed, but most sources described him as a Parson Russell Terrier.

Over the course of five years the beloved rescue dog, Sykes, has appeared in 29 episodes of Midsomer Murders. The 13-year-old Jack Russell cross is now being looked after by a wonderful foster family.
