Zulu or Swazi War Hatchet, Battle Axe, Late 19th C
Hand-forged angular iron axe blade with long integrally forged round-section stud mortised into the shaft and secured with twisted iron wire. Head is 12 1/4″ long and extends 5 1/4″ from the shaft. Curved 35 ½” hardwood shaft. Unique example in very good condition. Possibly a British soldier’s bring-back from the Zulu Wars.

Offered for sale from my private collection of southern African artefacts is this MAGNIFICENT TOP-QUALITY old Swazi warrior's ceremonial battleaxe. The axe is around 70-90 years old and was collected in rural Swaziland. The axe measures a huge 43 inches in length.
