In Reforged, the map is completely overhauled from its Warcraft III version and shows one gate and otherwise open space with trees around the Sunwell. The Heritage of the Sin'dorei, that depicts the events of Blood of the Highborne (Kael destroying the corrupted Sunwell), occurs in the Sunwell Plateau raid map.

The Sunwell Plateau was introduced in patch 2.4 at the end of the 'Burning Crusade' expansion along with 'Magisters Terrace' dungeon.The raid's location is on the island at the top of the Eastern Kingdom's continent. The location coordinates for the raid entrance are 44,45. Access to the Island is through a flight path with a short-cut journey from Ironforge and Silvermoon.

Sunwell Plateau is the hardest and final raid instance in the Burning Crusade expansion pack. Within, Kael'thas Sunstrider is trying to summon Kil'jaeden the Deceiver, the leader of the demon forces in the expansion, through the Sunwell. Players fight through demon and Scourge alike in order to stop this powerful entity from entering the world.
