
LSWR S15 class - Wikipedia
The LSWR S15 class is a British 2-cylinder 4-6-0 freight steam locomotive designed by Robert W. Urie, based on his H15 class and N15 class locomotives. The class had a complex build history, spanning several years of construction from 1920 to 1936.
S15 4-6-0 LSWR Urie & Maunsell 30496 – 30515 & 30823 – 30847
After modification by Maunsell, the S15 class was regarded by locomotive crews as an excellent goods engine best known for working heavy night express goods trains between Exeter, Southampton and Nine Elms.
30847 (SR 847 & BR 30847) - Preserved British Steam Locomotives
30847 was the last S15 as well as being the last 4-6-0 to be built by the Southern Region. It was completed at Eastleigh in December 1936 and initially allocated to Exmouth Junction shed which was one of the largest on the Southern Region.
30841 (SR 841 & BR 30841) - Preserved British Steam Locomotives
30841 was built in 1936 at Eastleigh Works as part of the final batch of S15 locomotives. It was initially allocated to Exmouth Junction shed but subsequently joined the majority of the S15 locomotives at Feltham in August 1963 from where it was withdrawn in January 1964 and sold to Woodham Brothers for scrap.

The S15 was the third of Robert Urie's 4-6-0 designs for the LSWR. (the other two being the H15 and the N15). Twenty were built at Nine Elms in 1920. Their appearance is very similar the N15 class and they shared many components including the 180 lb per sq in boiler and tender designs.

The class S15 were a class of two cylinder 4-6-0 steam locomotives that were designed from Robert Urie for freight service. The class was withdrawn between 1962 to 1966. No. 30837 was the final S15 to go, returning to Feltham in January 1966 to work a farewell rail tour.
