Southern Pacific GP38-2 4802 was on a transfer run from the CSX to the SP at New Orleans. It had been built in May 1980 and was renumbered Union Pacific 566 in October 2000. This westbound Southern Pacific transfer run was in New Orleans, on its way from the CSX’s GENTILLY YARD to the SP’s AVONDALE YARD.

Jan 28, 2019 · Southern Pacific originally modified 6 GP38-2's to replace the SD9Es in snow service. They were units 4809, 4817, 4839, 4840, 4841 and 4843. All were modified with Icicle breakers, heated horns, grating on the front windows, snow shields, rotating windows and Blomberg "B" trucks, replacing the as delivered "M" trucks.

The EMD GP38-2 is an American four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors, Electro-Motive Division. Part of the EMD Dash 2 line, the GP38-2 was an upgraded version of the earlier GP38. Power is provided by an EMD 645E 16-cylinder engine, which generates 2,000 horsepower (1.5 MW). [1]

Modeling an SP GP38-2 is not as straight forward as I originally said here. These units were not only delivered with most options (as per normal SP practice), like 'L' shaped engineers windows, anticlimbers and 'light shows', but also had the larger 3000 gallon fuel tank and 'Q' radiator fans.
