25 or 40 watt soldering iron/gun for guitar electronics?
Apr 29, 2009 · Pfft. I have a soldering station and I still use my Rat Shack 15/30w switchable pencil iron for really small stuff. It has a super pointy tip and my soldering station iron doesn't. It has what they call a pencil tip but it's rounded. I have a spare for it, so I may sharpen it with my Dremel and see how long the point lasts.
Soldering to the back of a pot? - Harmony Central
Aug 28, 2008 · I use a Weller 100/140 watt solder gun for guitar soldering work. I can almost instantly bring the soldering tip up to the proper temperature (at 140 watt trigger setting) then back off to 100 watt setting and flow solder for wire tinning or for solder connections. Cold solder joints don't happen with this setup.
Which solder for guitar wiring? - Harmony Central
Mar 27, 2009 · What you want is something with rosin in it. Flux does two things. first, at soldering temperature, it cleans and prevents the formation of metal oxides. Secondly, flux acts as a wetting agent in the soldering process, reducing the surface tension of the molten solder and causing it to better wet out the parts to be joined.
Connectors instead of soldering - Electric Guitars - Harmony Central
Dec 29, 2005 · But building on this idea, imagine a guitar where you can easily remove the entire wiring without taking off the strings or de/retuning and breaking out the soldering gun. You could throw in humbuckers, single goils, 500k 1meg, .47caps, crazy switching schematics just by popping out the electronics and connecting to the cable jack's wires.
How easy is it to burn out a pot? - Harmony Central
Feb 2, 2010 · If your soldering to the back/bottom of the pot (not the little tabby things) rough it up a bit first, scratch it with a screw driver or hit it with a bit of sand paper..(remember to clean it off after) and you will find the solder will flow a lot easier.
Soldering and heat sinks: please educate me. - Harmony Central
Apr 26, 2008 · Most of the time I do not put heat sinks on leads before soldering the parts. If I'm soldering germanium transistors or diodes, or maybe mosfets, I put a small copper clip on the legs, solder the connection and then remove the clip. Only takes a few seconds. Don't worry about it on resistors or capacitors. regards, Jack
Any way to wire a guitar without soldering? - Electric Guitars ...
Mar 7, 2008 · you can crimp it with some sort of blade or bullet connector im guessing, but im honestly gonna say soldering is normally the best way that your wire doesnt disconnect at the connection point, i also dont know if it will affect tone or anything cuz ive never done it before... maybe someone else could further help you with any problems with that decision good luck
I can't get the solder to stick to the back of the pot! Suggestions ...
Apr 26, 2007 · A dab of soldering flux (rosin) for a stubborn one doesn't hurt. The use of a 40 watt iron is an EXTREMELY bad idea. By the time the back of the pot is hot enough to take solder, the resistive element is hotter than I would accept.
Low heat solder strips. Anybody ever hear of them?
May 25, 2011 · The trick to soldering is to heat the metal of the connection THEN add solder and it will flow around the connection and bond the metals atomically. Using a solder strip will 9 times out of ten cause a cold solder joint because you're melting the solder before the metal below is hot enough to bond with it.
Speaker Wiring: quick connect clips VS soldering
Feb 28, 2009 · the speaker jack is pretty much a "quick connect clip" as it is, so you don't really lose anything using them on the speaker terminals as long as you make sure they're good and tight. they certainly make life easier if you plan on swapping out speakers.
