Jun 26, 2010 · Hello. This is my first post. I'm considering purchasing a piccolo snare. So far, I'm debating between the 3x13 Ludwig Black Beauty, an older maple Tama Artstar piccolo, or one of the Pearl Piccolos (1330 or possibly free floater). Any …

Snare drum pitch? | [DFO] Drum Forum
Dec 4, 2008 · Work with a producer, or a knowledgeable guy from the band if you're unsure. There's no exact formula. If you play an off-center rimshot, you might wnat to tune the batter head in some relation the chords used the most. If you use a low snare sound, maybe the fundamental tone of the drum (resultant of both heads and drum) can be tuned to fit ...
Pros & Cons of die-cast hoops - [DFO] Drum Forum
Aug 5, 2005 · On a snare drum, same deal, and they also give you one hell of a rim click. Rim shots, too. Also, as Redbreard said, die cast hoops work differently on different drums. IMO, they're best with thin drum shells. I remember the great Sam Woodyard with Duke Ellington. He did elbow pitch bends all the time when he soloed, and he was using Premier drums.
Snare drum for low volume situations | [DFO] Drum Forum
Jun 5, 2011 · I'm looking for suggestions for a low-volume snare drum. I have an arsenal of brushes, rods, light sticks, zero rings, and moon gel but I'm interested in a drum that has intrinsically low volume without resorting to excessive dampening. Also looking for advise on head choices for my existing...
Let's share snare tuning tips - [DFO] Drum Forum
Oct 31, 2005 · Got this from Joe Morello's site: "Joe tunes his snare drum fairly tight and crisp, with the batter head about a fourth lower than the snare side. All drums are played wide open, with the only muffling being a 2" felt strip on the batter head of the base drum, running from top to bottom about 3" off the center of the head."
let's talk about 12 inch snares - [DFO] Drum Forum
Jan 19, 2013 · Perhaps, in a studio or any other direct microphone environment, that drum could work, but for balancing with the rest of the kit acoustically, as a main snare drum, I think a larger diameter drum works better. For special situations, such as a small cocktail setup or as a secondary effects drum, sure, that 12x5 Gretsch is a great candidate.
dw Edge - All that? | [DFO] Drum Forum
Jan 7, 2020 · As you'd guess, the best of metal and wood in one drum. I mostly play metal snares and sometimes miss that crisp snare response with wood - the Edge has that response but adds in the warmth of wood to round out the sound. Neither of my friends play stadiums, but I've heard that the Edge is a great live drum because it projects so well.

Not a bad deal.
Don't throw out that CB-700! - [DFO] Drum Forum
Apr 1, 2006 · So I've had this CB-700 snare drum sitting out in the garage for a few years. It came with some vintage Gretsch drums I bought on CL, and since the snare was dirty, out of round, and well, a CB-700, I never did anything with it except scavenge it for the tension rods. On a whim, I decided the other day to see if I could make a decent drum out ...
