I have my chunk under Y:40 and I'm positive that it's in a slime chunk. However, there aren't any slimes spawning. I found a ravine nearby and lit that up along with all the other caves nearby.

Dec 30, 2013 · However, lighting up the surrounding area does decrease the chances of non-slime mobs spawning, and thus indirectly increases slime spawning rates. Glowstone has the same properties as glass, so mobs cannot spawn on it.

May 4, 2015 · If you go to the techincal side of things, you will notice that at a specific layer in regular worlds, slimes will spawn. In a regular superflat world, there are 4 layers, last is bedrock, and the rest is grass and dirt. So, you stand in one of these "slime chunks" and so slimes spawn.

Jun 20, 2018 · I personally don't bother with slime chunks. I did some terraforming in nearby swamp to make it flat, with a lot less water surface and less trees. A single night there at full moon with a looting III sword can yield a ton of slimeballs. But, if you use forge, there are mods that will tell you if you are in a slime chunk.
