It’s really a P229, with the P229 slide, 229-1 frame, but wearing the P228 logo grip, when SIG originally released it. Some years later, SIG finally decided that it is officially a P229, so all current M11-A1s now wear the P229 logo grip.

Dec 16, 2024 · Many years later Sig marketed the M11-A1 as an homage to the 228, even putting P228 markings on the grip. Don't be fooled, other than some parts being coated better and shipped with an SRT, it's a 229 under the skin.

Jun 22, 2019 · Whether SIG marketing is more deceitful calling a P229/M11A1 a "P228" or calling the current production stainless slide/MIM loaded P220 and P226 a real "P220" or "P226" is debatable. The classic P-series design has morphed; educated SIG owners know that and either accept the new reality or limit their SIG inventories to piece(s) of history.

Jul 7, 2015 · I think the P228, particularly the West German ones from Sig's Golden Age, just offers a balance of size, power, and accuracy that make it very desirable. Plus, it's a proven performer in federal law enforcement field use and its reliability is the stuff of legend.

May 4, 2022 · I also owned another P228 back in the day which memory escapes me why I let it go. This was around the 1989 - 1990 time period. I can attest both the P225 and P228 are extremely accurate guns and a dream to shoot. My P228 has very light trigger pull in SA which requires a little more concentration to avoid unwanted double taps.
