The Security Industries Authority (SIA) is a new government agency established by the Security Protection Act 2004 and it officially came in to existence on the 1st of September 2005 to regulate the operations of all the private security companies in the country.

To encourage and develop the securities industry in partnership with the industry players, interested stake holders and relevant government law enforcement agencies to protect life and property in the country. And by doing so create employment opportunities in the security industry for the PNG people.

The Security Industries Authority is the fastest-growing business in PNG as of December 2023. It had 569 licensed security companies with 30,126 permitted guards employed in various country locations.

All current Council members are on three (3) years appointment by the Minister with the exception of the ex- officio Council members such as Police Commissioner and the Registrar and the Sheriff of the National and the Supreme Courts of PNG.

1. Incorporate a security company with the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) and obtain a Certificate of Incorporation or Business Name issued by the Registrar of Companies.
