The Southern Arizona Society of Model Engineers -- SASME -- is a model railroad club located in Tucson, Arizona. We began promoting the hobby of model railroading in 1954. We've had several locations over the years, but in 1984 we moved into our present building at 1818 E. Winsett St. Suite A (next to Phil's Tires) Tucson, AZ 85719.

Building Cars to SASME Standards The handout from Jim Homan's clinic on building cars to club standards. Addendum: Never use self-tapping screws for fastening the trucks to the bolster. Self-tapping screws expand the plastic and will interfere with the truck swivel.

Any car that goes on the SASME layout MUST be weighed to NMRA specs. If you are doing one for your own layout you really need to have the car weighted to NMRA specs. They work so much better. Wheel sets. Our club standards call for nickel silver wheel sets. We are using Intermountain wheels and some Atlas, Proto 2000 and Accurail wheels.
