In real life, the SL9SD is a suppressed variant of the Heckler & Koch SL8 that fires subsonic rounds. Despite its in-game classification as an assault rifle, the real world weapon is a semi-automatic civilian-grade version of the Heckler & Koch G36 rifle.

Sep 24, 2010 · This is actually an HK "SL9SD". It is HK's variantion on the .300 Whisper round that they developed for a test by the German GSG9 unit. It was not selected. It had a different bolt and barrel and custom can. It shot well, was very quiet but as I recall GSG9 went elsewhere for the capablty in the end - maybe direct to SSK - I don't recall.
