Jan 17, 2008 · In a SHTF scenario, I would say the bolt action rifle (prefer scope) is best food procuring game from the woods, to feed yourself. To defend yourself in a riot, I would pack a pistol. Walking about in urban environment with an MBR draws too much attention, especially from police snipers.

Feb 18, 2013 · I'm seeing what you all think of the Browning BAR hunting rifle as a SHTF rifle (substitute MBR). Long ago I had one in 30-06 that was very accurate. It was MOA accurate with the loads that it liked was about 8lbs and was pretty handy.

Sep 21, 2008 · If a guy has a good AK or AR I don't see a need for a MBR. I would much rather have a scoped bolt gun for my "heavy" applications. You can make up a nice light .308/30-06/8mm/6.5x55mm/7.62x54R with a scope for under $400 if you are a good shopper.

Sep 9, 2012 · With my MBR, I can penetrate all of such frame construction houses at will. Most Importantly, is to NOT play the same game that your opponent is playing. In a SHTF scenario, or even an urban riot/martial law scenario, your opponents are very likely to have short-ranged weapons, and little skill in their use.

Jul 29, 2011 · Since my MBR will be used in austere circumstances (post SHTF) I want it forged. The Garand is restricted to a 8 round en bloc clip and, the clips are inexpensive. Many clips can be purchased for a hundred dollars and, they can be stored loaded without weakening anything.

May 3, 2009 · I'm a rifle newbie and was eyeballing the FNAR as a possible SHTF/MBR gun. (that's "shdookie hits the fan"/"main battle rifle" for those allergic to acronyms). A .380 semi-auto rifle with 20-rd capacity, weighs max 10lbs empty, seems to fit that bill.

Jan 1, 2011 · The MBR, or battle rifle topic is all over the web. From what I read, most folks say that a MBR has to be a .308. I'm assuming the MBR is supposed to be a SHTF gun. Why would you need a MBR if you're readily equipped with an AR15 or AK47 if SHTF? Aren't this both more than capable if you had to fight?
