Mar 11, 2010 · The KR-2 is a two-place version of the KR-1 and is generally similar in construction. The low wings are removable, the main gear is retractable, and the tailwheel is steerable. With a stock 1,600cc engine, cruise speed is 140 mph. With a 2,100cc turbocharged VW conversion, cruise is 180 mph at 3,200 RPM.

Nov 7, 2024 · Few Volkswagen-powered aeroplanes are as fast as the KR-2. Ken Rand claimed a maximum cruise speed of 180mph. This might be exaggerated, but the type does have an impressive cruise performance with low fuel consumption.

Be realistic, don't go crying to Ken Rand if your KR-2 weighs 500 pounds empty, is powered by a stock 1600cc VW and cruises at 125-130 mph. There's nothing about the design of the KR-2 that alters the basic laws of physics ... you gotta be light to go!
