The Rashtriya Janata Dal (abbreviated as RJD; translation: National People's Party) is an Indian political party, mainly based in the state of Bihar. The party was founded in 1997 by Lalu Prasad Yadav .

Drawing inspiration from Gandhian values as well as following in the great tradition of the socialist leaders, RJD strongly stands against communalism in any form. The party believes that the right of peaceful and democratic dissent including Satyagraha/ non-violent resistance is a fundamental right of the people.

RJD, as a political party in India has a very strong support in the state of Bihar. It has been continuously evolving in the vanguard to speak for an egalitarian society committed to progressive and secular outlook in governance as well as everyday life.
