Transistor Museum Photo Gallery RCA TA153
The TA153 was the prototype for the commercialized 2N34, which was introduced by RCA in 1953. The case material is araldite epoxy, which, through time, allows moisture degradation of the transistor junctions - most currently existing units are not functional.
RCA Transistor Oral History Mueller Index
This photo shows examples of the first RCA junction transistors, which were made by Dr. Mueller at the RCA Labs at Princeton in late 1952, early 1953. The TA153 is a PNP type, as described in the Oral History.

The RCA TA153 is a prototype junction transistor from about 1952. My database contains notes saying that this medium-sized device is an IBM X-4 but I cannot remember where I obtained this information.
RCA Transistor Oral History Pankove Index
This device improved on the existing audio frequency transistors, type TA153, which had been developed by Pankove, Mueller, Law and Armstrong at RCA in 1952. The SX160 offered much better high frequency performance (up to 75 MHZ) and was immediately used by RCA researchers to build all-transistor radio receivers.

old RCA transistors- what are they? - diyAudio
Apr 13, 2004 · THey seem to be associated with the old "universal" RCA amplifier design, typically using 2N4249 PNP inputs, 2N3568 pre-driver, 40409/40410 drivers and possibly the 40411 output. The 61088 might have been the 1N3754 diode used for …
