When we talk about war dogs with reference to ancient Romans it's not about organized ranks of legionaries with dogs [there are no traces of training camps for dogs or drills involving legionaries with dogs].

You will find that if you search hard enough, and if you also have access to original material, Pliny the Elder did in fact praise canis pugnax, and the story about the Colphon people as his only reference is erroneous. There are many sources on ancient roman war dogs, and historical accounts too. You just haven't found them ...
