Pinhel (Portuguese pronunciation: ⓘ) is a municipality, former Catholic bishopric and present Latin titular see in the central subregion of Beira Interior Norte, in Portugal. The municipality population in 2011 was 9,627, [1] in an area of 484.52 km 2. [2] The urban centre of Pinhel had about 3500 residents in 2001.

The municipality of Pinhel lies between 350 and 600 metres above sea level and is bathed by the rivers Côa and Massueime, but also by the rivers Cabras and Pêga, surrounded by monumental landscapes: hills, plateaus, mountains and the Serra da Marofa. The name Pinhel comes from the large number of pine trees in the area.
