PEBA is the state agency responsible for the administration and management of the state’s retirement systems and employee insurance programs for South Carolina’s public workforce. More than 650,000 public employees are covered by the five defined benefit retirement plans, and PEBA administers insurance benefits to more than 530,000 members.

You may also send a written notification to PEBA.

PEBA’s online member portals give you access to your insurance and retirement accounts, allow you to view and update your personal information and conduct online transactions. The member portals are safe, secure and available anytime from anywhere you have internet access.

The benefit estimate calculator provides an unofficial estimate of the monthly benefit you may receive at retirement. If you are a member of one of the defined benefit plans PEBA administers, you can access the calculator through Member Access. The calculator provides an estimate only and is subject to change.

Employers are required to pay all applicable employer contributions, including the retiree insurance surcharge, and incidental death benefit and accidental death program coverage contributions, if coverage is provided. State law mandates that PEBA collect the retiree insurance surcharge from employers.
