Exceedingly Rare 19th C.Micronesian Adze From Palau
Originally purchased from a German private collection, offered is an extremely rare adze from the Palau Islands. I have included a photo of a similar example published in "In Den Weiten Des Pazifik - Mikronesian". The handle of the adze measures 24 inches in length.
Using a collection from the Tokyo University Anthropology Department, which included beaked adzes from Palau and the Carolines, Ya-wata (1942) describes a large (27 cm long) beaked adze labelled as from “Palau” (Dept Specimen B.369).
