Performance Graded (PG) Binder - Caltrans
The Performance Graded (PG) system is a method of measuring asphalt binder performance. It was originally developed during the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) in the early 1990s. In 2005, California agreed to adopt the PG system for grading asphalts in the state.
Superpave Performance Grading – Pavement Interactive
Information on how to select a PG asphalt binder for a specific condition is contained in Superpave mix design method. Table 1 shows how the Superpave PG system addresses specific penetration, AC and AR grading system general limitations.
Jul 1, 2024 · 1. What asphalt binder grades are currently included in your specifications? Of those binders, which ones (if any) are not typically available? 2. Does your agency require performance grade (PG) “Plus” testing on modified binders? If so, what additional tests are required, and what are the minimum requirements? 3.
Performance Grades – PG Asphalt • PG Binder types are selected geographically, based off that regions 100-year climate history. • PG Binder nomenclature: Max Design Temperature, °C Min. Design Temperature, °C
How is asphalt binder is defined in a PG System (the notation)? PG system is based on project climate. The standard notation for PG binder is PG XX-YY where XX is the average-seven day maximum pavement design temperature and YY is the minimum pavement design temperature. 3. What does the Climate map have to do with PG Binders?
LTPP InfoPave - LTPPBind Online - Transportation
LTPPBind Online provides a tool for highway agencies to investigate asphalt binder Performance Grade (PG) ratings in accordance with AASHTO M320-10 and AASHTO M332-14 standards. Climate input options include MERRA-2, LTPP sites, or user defined data.
Pavement Manual: Performance Graded Binders (PG Binders)
The Superpave binder specifications are performance-based; therefore, these binders are known as performance-graded (PG) binders in contrast to the older system of viscosity graded (AC) binders, which are typically used for surface treatments and aggregate precoating (see Item 300).
Use PG xx-28 for shoulders or pavement adjacent to concrete mainline and concrete curb and gutter. New construction includes: reconstruction, rubbilization, CIR, reclaiming (FDR) . See specifications for binder adjustment in recycled mixtures. No adjustment required when < …
This Construction Bulletin provides information regarding the new Multiple Stress Creep Recovery (MSCR) test and specification for Performance Graded (PG) asphalt binders used in production of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA).
