Some people have gave estimates of the percentage of adult games on the system like 90%, but according one site that compiles info on PC-98 games its over 80%. So its safe to say that 80~90% of PC-98 games are adult games.

Mar 31, 2016 · The art for these PC-98 games didn't require super-advanced draftsmanship and technical skills to make. I think the real cleverness most J-PC developers excelled at was scanning and dithering artwork to look more crisp and unique than before, after which point it's possible to also recycle assets in a way that doesn't feel lazy and rushed.

Jan 12, 2018 · Although these aren't actually screenshots of the PC-98 version of the game, they are from the DOS and FM Towns versions that are direct ports. This is a really nice looking game with a classic Japanese feel, I love that overused dithering.

Mar 31, 2016 · The popular 16-color PC-98 video mode outputted to RGB at a 640x400 pixel resolution. Other video modes existed but weren't used by the majority of commercial developers, as resolution superiority was a selling point for the machine and its library of applications.

Sep 7, 2015 · The only PC-98 I've ever played is Policenauts, which is, of course, awesome, but it's Japanese only (and heavy). It's worth a look because it uses animated sprites instead of FMVs like the other versions (which I haven't played yet, actually). Highly recommended. Too bad my PC died with all my trillion screenshots of that game.

Mar 31, 2016 · Tons of great arcade shooter games came out for J-PCs, usually on the Sharp X68k but also on PC-98 and earlier. I bet a number of dungeon-crawlers are playable too. Overall getting into J-PC games w/o Japanese knowledge has already barred VNs and xRPGs off from me, at least until later, which means I have to investigate more often.
